Hungry to win: Jets fan sent Mike Williams breakfast sandwich to persuade him to sign

The New York Jets are hungry to build a winning team.
Apparently, offering players food is helping them do so.
Jets fan and social media personality @NYJ_Matt sent a breakfast sandwich to wide receiver Mike Williams during his free agent visit to the team facility on Tuesday. On Sunday, he told his followers that it was his contribution to signing the former Los Angeles Chargers wideout after a report surfaced that Williams was also going to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers. He supposedly was scheduled to meet with the Carolina Panthers as well.
When Williams was arriving at the Florham Park facility, Matt posted a picture on X, formerly Twitter, of the Door Dash order — a Taylor Ham sandwich with two eggs and cheese from family-owned Morristown Diner with the instructions, "Please hand it to the person at the door and say this is for Mike Williams and let him know catching passes from Aaron Rodgers is more fun than catching from Bryce Young." Matt and the Jets' X account gave fans a play-by-play of the sandwich landing at 1 Jets Drive.
By the end of the day, Williams agreed to a one-year deal with the Jets worth up to $15 million. He will play alongside Garrett Wilson as Rodgers returns from a torn Achilles that he suffered last year on New York's opening series. Backup quarterback Zach Wilson led the team to a 7-10 finish and they missed the playoffs for the 13th consecutive season.

After the contract was announced, the Jets posted a social media video of Williams opening the brown paper bag and enjoying his first meal in the green and white. They saluted @NYJ_Matt by tagging him on X.
"This good," Williams said with a laugh in the video. "This what got the deal signed right here."
"We’re glad you enjoyed the sandwich!" Morristown Diner's Instagram account said in the comments with a green heart emoji. "Go JETS!!"
"Everyone thank @NYJ_Matt for getting it deal-ivered," Door Dash responded on X.
Matt gave insight into his scheme, which he ensured was a "team effort" with Jets Twitter, the team's fanbase that helped spread the word on the social media platform.
"It shouldn't go unnoticed that all I did was Door Dash a sandwich to a different location than my house," he said on his Broadway Jets YouTube show, noting the order was $23, including tip and fees. "... It would be funny like a good gesture, have some good Northern Jersey food and deliver it. ... If it is a 0.1 percent difference of him signing, which might even be too high, it is a hilarious moment. I'm happy I was a part of it."
The story continued to grow.
The Brooklyn Nets offered Williams a sandwich when he sat courtside at their NBA game Tuesday night.
Fans followed Matt's lead and sent more food to the Jets facility, so much so that the team redirected fans to donate to nourish.NJ, a local nonprofit that combats hunger and poverty.
The Jets said they would change their X profile picture to an image of the sandwich with Williams' bite out of it if a post got 3,000 shares. Jets fans did the deed and the team stayed true to its word, changing its profile picture to the breakfast of (hopeful) champions.
